i wnjoyed the Christain intrigue at first until the story line became predictable all the way to the end. the military scenes were great except that a the word "sir" was birthed in the middle ages and the woman of the house is referred to as "domina" lady is also middle aged. those are just technical issues. the scenes on Rome and elsewhere were rich and real.it was a nice read

The Roman General A Novel eBook Jocelyn Murray Reviews
Too many spelling and grammar errors.
Second half was a soap. An action adventure dissolved into a romance novel. It's as though the author converted in the middle of the book.
good story very enjoyable recommend
The story does have insight into time described, especially the Roman Emperor Trajan. Otherwise, it was predictable. I also found repetition of certain "facts" to be unnecessary.
Good page turner and a fine historical novel about Rome in Emperor Trajan's time. Christians were persecuted as enemy of state and yet the practice of the religion did not abate. It's a good novel that covered war and romance.
Entertaining read on a relaxing vacation. Wondered about the use of some terms such as "Sire" that seemed a bit out of place. The rise of Christianity in a pagan Empire offers a nice backdrop, but left too many open questions for me about how/why some converted and their righteous refusal to acknowledge the beliefs of others. Respecting another's religion meant rejecting one's own? And the poor Dacian King, set up to be a Man of Culture and grace, basically allowed his pride to prevail in his timid downfall, along with his people and kingdom. What was he thinking? What was his plan after massacring the Roman garrison? Just to sit in his City on the defensive and wait for Emperor? Really?
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Jocelyn Murray's books and this one was no exception. The characters were real and fully developed. We get a good sense of what happened with the Romans and the persecution of the Christians. The author must have done a lot of research because the historical aspects of the second century were flawless. This is a must read for all historical fiction buffs.
